The Charity coin for any Brother who through his lodge or personal pursuits has done some notable charity work, whether Grand or Small.
In the King James Bible and often in out Masonic ritual we site Charity. What is sometimes forgotten is that Charity had meant Love. As Masons we often consider charity to be giving and helping our Brethren and others in need. For there to be charity and giving one must have Love already, a sense of caring and doing good.
Benjamin Franklin is one such man, who through his life and endeavors enriched his fellowman, inventing the Lightning rod, which he did not patent, helping to start churches, schools, a fire department and libraries.
The story of him listening to the sermon of Reverend George Whitefield and emptying his purse, when prior having committed himself to not give even a copper is a small look into his heart. A great defender of the Colonies, and our independence, to his community, inventions, public endeavors and to Freemasonry makes Franklin a clear choice of tireless industry, thus why the Beehive is beside him on this coin and an example of the Masonic interpretation.
Any Brother who has worked on a charitable event through the kindness of his heart is a candidate for this coin, and an Example to his Brethren, Lodge and Freemasonry.
