George Washington

The Character Coin for any Brother who has proven as a Man and Mason to regulate his conduct, in a way that makes him a great example to his fellows and our fraternity.

George Washington,  1st President of the United States,  General of the Continental Army and Freemason was a Man known to be passionate about his dignity and character. This coin features the Washington Masonic memorial and monument, and shows the vesica piscis, the words above are Praise be to GOD, which is the inscription at the top of the monument.

As a young man he wrote 110 rules for civility and behavior,  based on old French Jesuit rules. He was known among his guests and friends as a man of integrity and politeness,  this was a personal passion of Washington.  Although it may be found that during the War as a general he could be a man of extreme temper. Undeniably a seven year war with all the shortfalls of manpower, food, clothing and shelter for his troops could test the resolve of any man. From the Charges you received during your degrees,  to the words of Tenets and Cardinal Virtues, we are reminded above all to be of good moral Character, a task that is easier said then done.  For this, the Character coin might well be the most difficult to earn from your Brethren.

If you have been fortunate enough to have received this coin as a gift, know that you are the example that we as Freemasons strive to achieve, and what makes forming these friendships the treasure of our craft.
